Customs rules and regulations on passengers` goods

The rules for passengers who intend to leave Iran are as follows:

  • Outbound passengers, whether they are Iranian or foreign, can take with them Iranian goods up to the prescribed limit, in addition to their travel equipment and personal items, as long as the goods do not have a commercial aspect.
  • Foreign nationals who officially work or study in Iran, at the end of their work or study period, can take their equipment out of the country without a license or business card.

Dried fruit

  • The departure of all kinds of dry fruits with the passenger is unimpeded in the amount that does not have a commercial aspect. The maximum amount of pistachios allowed for departure is 10 kg per passport and 100 grams of saffron per passport.

Carpets and rugs

  • Hand-woven carpets are allowed to be taken out with the passenger up to a maximum of 20 square meters, and the passenger has no restrictions on the number of carpet pieces, provided that they comply with the mentioned meters.
  • In addition to the air borders, the departure of the carpet with the passenger is also allowed from the land and sea borders.
  • It is forbidden to take exquisite carpets that have historical value and cultural heritage.

Traveler’s currency

  • According to the regulations of the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran, each passenger is free to take cash up to $5,000 (or its equivalent in other currencies).
  • Cash withdrawal of currency in the form of traveler’s checks is also free.

Gold and silver

  • It is allowed to leave personal jewelry with the passenger, up to 150 grams of all kinds of gold artifacts.
  • Passengers are allowed to take out artifacts and silverware as gifts and souvenirs up to a maximum of 2 kg. Provided that the mentioned objects are not cultural and historical works.

Works of art and antiques

  • The export of antiques, original works of art, manuscripts and lithographic books, calligraphic pieces, miniature papers, all kinds of precious coins and any kind of historical and cultural heritage items is prohibited.

Weapons and ammunition

  • It is forbidden to leave the country with weapons, ammunition and military equipment.

Incoming passengers are those passengers who intend to come to Iran. Customs rules and regulations for these passengers are as follows:

 

  • Iranian or non-Iranian travelers who enter the country from abroad or from free trade-industrial zones, beside their travel equipment and personal items, which are exempt from the basic payment of customs duties, only if they are non-commercial, can once in Year clear goods with a maximum value of 80 dollars with exemption from paying customs duties and commercial profit, provided that it is non-commercial, and the excess of the said value shall be imported and cleared by paying customs duties and twice the commercial profit.

  • Travel equipment and personal items must be with the passenger, otherwise they should be handed over to the transportation agency during his stay outside the border and arrive at the customs within one month before and one month after the passenger’s arrival.

 

Import of gold, silver and currency

  • The entry of currency into the country is free in any amount. Inbound passengers must declare their foreign currency by submitting a currency declaration to the Bank Melli branches located at the entry point and receive a certificate.
  • The entry of jewelry with passengers such as necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings, bangles, watches, etc. is allowed in the normal limit and for personal use as a unit, and the entry of excess is subject to obtaining a prior permission from the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 

Customs regulations for the import of work tools with workers

The used tools and hand tools related to the work and profession of Iranians and foreigners who come to Iran for permanent residence are subject to the passenger exemption of the Customs Affairs Law, provided that:

 

  • The employment of those people in the claimed profession has been confirmed by the Iranian consular authorities in the country of their previous residence, and in places where there are no Iranian consular authorities, it is sufficient to provide a certificate from the local authorities.

 

  • The goods arrive at the customs between one month before the arrival and nine months after the arrival of the person.

 

  • Machines and devices are excluded from the scope of these regulations and are subject to the conditions of entry of goods according to the law of export and import regulations.

 

  • Do not have a commercial aspect.

General import and export bans

According to the laws and regulations of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the import of some goods or their export is generally prohibited.

 

Some of these goods are:

 

  • Alcoholic drinks
  • Gambling equipment
  • Hot and cold weapons and incendiary and explosive materials
  • Drugs
  • Publications, images, films, photos and any goods that is contrary to the religious and national values of the country.
  • Any type of writing against the official religion of the country or disrupting public order and modesty and national affairs
  • Other goods that are forbidden by law, or their import and export are prohibited according to the customs tariff.
  • Refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, freezers, televisions and radio recorders (with the exception of portable radio recorders) are excluded from the list of passenger goods with customs exemption. This prohibition includes the goods of ordinary passengers of authorized entry points and commercial and industrial free zones.
  • Clearance of the goods subject to the ban on the mentioned bulky goods, if it has a non-commercial aspect, is unimpeded without using exemption and by collecting import duties.
  • The entry of domestic animals and birds is subject to the presentation of a health certificate from the country of origin and the approval of the veterinary organization, and their export is also subject to the presentation of a health certificate from the veterinary organization.
  • The import and export of wild animals and birds will be subject to the presentation of a certificate from the Environmental Protection Organization.
  • The entry and clearance of telecommunications items such as wireless telephones, etc. is allowed only by providing a license from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
  • The entry and clearance of plants such as seeds, flowers, seedlings, etc. is allowed only by submitting a permit from the plant quarantine.
  • The entry and clearance of live fish is allowed only with the permission of the Ministry of Agriculture.
